Torquay is the home of internationally renowed surfing icons - Quiksilver and Ripcurl. SurfWorld Plaza is a shopping mecca and a must do for all those visitors to the "Surf Capital" of Australia - Torquay.
While you're there take time out to visit Australia's national surfing musuem - SurfWorld - also located at SurfWorld Plaza. And, while you're in the surfing mood, take some surfing lessons at one of the many Surfing Schools located in Torquay. And, after you've taken to the skies and the surf save some energy because there's still lots more to do in Torquay. Try horseriding, mountain bike riding, a round a golf or swim with the dolphins. |
Then take one of the most spectacular drives in the world - along the "world famous" Great Ocean Road. Tour by car (or by air if you have limited time).After you leave our endless beaches in Torquay, continue your drive along the Great Ocean Road to Anglesea. (A visit to the Anglesea Golf Course at early morning or late afternoon will be well rewarded with a sight of more kangaroos than you can poke a golf stick at!) Continue through to the tranquil town of Aireys Inlet with its imposing lighthouse, the road cuts through the precipitous cliff to the charming town of Lorne, then on to Apollo Bay or the 12 Apostles. From any of these locations you can return via the Otway rainforests at your leisure. (A helpful note for visitors heading to the 12 Apostles - allow yourself plenty of time. The trip from Torquay to the 12 Apostles via the Great Ocean Road is 4 hours plus - one way. And, that's not counting time to stop and check out all the other places along the way. So, please allow plenty of time. Or, if time is limited, try a scenic flight to the 12 Apostles (which would take 1 and a half hours return) and enjoy the rest of the day touring our beautiful region. |
